Joseph Von Ruden of Havanna, died of pneumonia at his home on Wednesday, October 27th, aged 72 years, 5 months and 21 days. He was troubled with asthma and a few days before his death contracted a severe cold which proved fatal. Joseph Von Ruden was born in Prussia May 6, 1837. In 1864 he came to the United States and located in Wisconsin where he remained until 1866, then came to Steele County and located in Owatonna. He remained in the city three years then removed to Havanna where he lived on a farm until his death. In 1868 he was married to Wilhelmina Longrher. Their children are John, Francis (Mrs. Charles Engbard), Joseph, George, Mary (Mrs. William Ohrman), Alvenia, Lena, Fred, Matt, Henry and William. Joseph Von Ruden was a farmer in Prussia, a butcher in Owatonna and a farmer in Havanna. He was well educated in Germany, having attended school eight years in Prussia. He was a Democrat in politics, a good honest industrious man, an obliging neighbor, and a patriotic citizen. In all the duties of his life he bore his part well and has come to his long rest sincerely mourned. The funeral services took place at the Catholic church in Claremont last Saturday morning and were largely attended. The remains were laid to rest in the new Catholic cemetery near Claremont.

He is survived by his wife, eleven children and eleven grandchildren and three brothers. All the children were present. Although ailing for some years, his last illness was only four days duration. His death Tuesday evening, October 26th was a shock to the community. The funeral services were held at the Catholic church in Claremont last Saturday morning at 10 o'clock. The remains were laid to rest in the Catholic Cemetery near Claremont village. Rev. Father Cotter officiating.
