PIONEER RESIDENT, DIES
Mrs. Charles Engbard passed away August 11th at her farm home near this village following a brief illness, at the age of 86 years and 11 months. She was a lifelong resident of this community.
Frances Dorothy Von Ruden was born on May 30, 1872, the daughter of Joseph and Wilhelmina Von Ruden, at their farm near Rice Lake. On January 6, 1897, she was united in marriage to Charles Engbard and they have since farmed west of Claremont a short distance.
Beside her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Minnie Christy and one son, Carl Enghard of this community. Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Mary Ohrmann, Miss Alvina Von Ruden and Mrs. Amos Lehman; four brothers, George of St. Paul and Fred, Mathew and Henry of Claremont; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. One son, Arnold preceded her in death in 1950, and also three brothers.
Funeral services were conducted at the First Presbyterian church Wednesday afternoon in charge of Rev. Donald Hanson, with interment in Hillside cemetery. Mrs. Geo. Gray, the soloist, sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Garden". Casketbearers were Harold Ohrmann, Wm. Engbard Jr., Hugo Von Ruden and George Von Ruden Jr., Claremont; Gust Butler, Owatonna, and George Witt, Dodge Center. Relatives and friends attended the services from St. Paul, Austin, Owatonna, Dodge Center and Bixby.
