George W. Dawson, resident of Seaside for the past 30 years, died early today at his home at 848 Birch St.

A resuscitator squad from the Seaside Fire Department was called to the home at 1:41 am. but Mr. Dawson failed to respond to treatment.

A retired foundry man and gardener, Mr. Dawson was born in Rochester Ind. Nov. 1,1878. He and his wife Mary, celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary in June of 1958.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a sister, Mrs. Viola Shepherd of Indiana; a son, Donald Dawson of Santa Clara; five daughters, Mrs. J. D. Hedrick of Lompoc, Mrs. M. R. Mead of Monterey, Mrs. J. O'Brien of Seaside, Mrs. C. M. Sanchez of Seaside and Mrs. Wade Brassfield of Roseville; and 20 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday from the Seaside Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Donald Shute of the Pentecostal Church of God in Seaside officiating. Burial will follow in Cementerio El Encinal.[Monterey Peninsula Herald, Saturday January 10, 1959, page 4, transcribed by Gary Carlsen]
