FLORENCE - Gwynne Pettigrew Jeffords, 66, died Thursday, October 18, 2012, in McLeod Hospice House after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m., Sunday, October 21, 2012, in the Chapel of Mount Hope Mausoleum. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, at Waters-Powell Funeral Home.

Gwynne was born in Florence, South Carolina, a daughter of Annie Gwynne Jeffers Pettigrew and the late Joseph Edward Pettigrew, Jr. She graduated from McClenaghan High School in 1963 and was instrumental in organizing Class Reunions every five years for the Class of 1963 since that time.

Gwynne was an Allstate Agent for 31 years and was one of the first female agents hired in South Carolina. Through the years she was dedicated to her many loyal customers and earned numerous Allstate honors. She was an Allstate Life/Financial Leader for 12 years; Chairman's Conference/National conference leader for 20 years; won the prestigious National Chairman's Conference award in 1995; and earned the Allstate Honor Ring award for 25 of her 31 years with the company.

She attended the Church of the Lost & Found in North Myrtle Beach, and Calvary Baptist Church in Florence. Gwynne's greatest joy was her family and she cherished her role as a wife, as the mother to her three beloved sons, and as a grandmother to her three grandchildren.

As a member of the Florence Shag Club, she was an avid shagger with a lifelong love of the music and the dance. She was nominated to the shaggers "Living Legends" in 2011.

Gwynne began her battle to overcome a rare cancer, uterine sarcoma, in October 2008 and faced numerous challenges with dedication and a positive attitude in hopes of inspiring and helping others facing a grim prognosis. She wished to be remembered for the strength of her faith, her courage, her compassion for others, and her ability to live each day with love and a grateful, joyful heart.

She was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, William C. "Billy" Jeffords, whose unwavering support and love contributed greatly to Gwynne's success.
