ALLEN LUTHER POFFENBERGER, retired principal of the Sharpsburg School where he taught for 30 years, died at his home, 114 East Main Street, Sharpsburg today after a short illness, aged 73. Death was attributed to a heart attack. He was also vice president of the Retired Teachers' Association.

He was a member of Trinity Memorial Lutheran Church, Sharpsburg, where he recently retired from the church council, and was a member of the Martin Luther Bible Class of the church. A staunch Democrat throughout his life, he was a member of the Democratic Club and was past master of Eureka Masonic Lodge 105, Sharpsburg.

He was born and raised in Sharpsburg, and was the son of the late Otho and Elizabeth (Welsh) Poffenberger.

Surviving are: his wife, Dora (Early) Poffenberger; children, Allen E. Poffenberger, St. James Village; and Mrs. Byron S. Hoffman, Hagerstown; three grandchildren; sister, Mrs. Hattie Spielman, Sharpsburg; brothers, Thomas Roy and Alexander Poffenberger, Sharpsburg.

Funeral services were held at the Leaf Funeral Home, Sharpsburg; interment was in Mountain View Cemetery.
