JOSEPH W. POFFENBERGER died at his home in Sharpsburg this morning after an illness of several days, aged 68 years. He was the son of the late Otho and Elizabeth Welch Poffenberger and was born and reared in Sharpsburg.

He is survived by wife, Bertha Anna (Renner) Poffenberger, daughter, Mrs. Edward Carter, son, Elmer L.; sisters, Mrs. Benjamin Swain, Mrs. Hugh Spielman; brothers, J.C., H.L., T.R., A.V., and A.F., all of Sharpsburg.

Funeral services were held at the late home; interment was in Mountain View Cemetery.
