Rites Are Held
Funeral Is Conducted by Rev. Birkholz at Home at Grogan

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon for W.W. Hudson at his home at Grogan. There was a large attendance by relatives and friends. Rev. E.C. Birkholz officiated. Music was by congregational singing. In addition to many flowers an In Memorian was given the St. Olaf radio station.
Burial was in the St. Paul's section of Mt. Hope cemetery. Pallbearers were: Monrad Harbitz, Emil Kelly, Bordenus Knudson,Cornelius Offerdal, Alva McClure, Jake Kor.
Wilbur Wallace Hudson was born in Clinton county, Iowa, May 2, 1867. He grew to manhood there. He was married on his birthday in 1893 to Miss Christine Hodne.
To this family five sons and five daughters have been born: Ben, St. James; Ellen (now Mrs. E.L. Simmonds), Bucoda, Wash.; Hazel (Mrs. H. Behrens), Elgin, I'll; Sarah (Mrs. Paul Bosshart), Truman; Susanna Freeman, St. James; Henry, Truman; Jessie (Mrs. Wm. Hoffman), Godahl; Wilbur and Purl, Sleepy Eye; Severt, St. James.
He also leaves three brothers, Frank, Van Metre, S. D.; Horace, Kingsley, Iowa; Forrest, Flandreau, S.D. There are 34 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
The family lived in several places in Iowa and moved to St. James in 1912, and have lived on various farms in this community since. In 1926 Mr. Hudson retired from active farming and moved to Grogan.
He became a member of the Evangelic Lutheran church at Portsmouth, Iowa. During his residence here he has not belonged to any church but his family have attended the Lutheran churches. Rev. Birkholz was called to serve during his late illness and held the funeral.
By nature Mr. Hudson was quiet and reserved. He did not interest himself in public office, but tended strictly to his own affairs. He was a sufferer from asthma for many years and a year ago arthritis set in. Three weeks ago a kidney ailment developed. He was taken to the St. James Hospital for treatment. He respond so was sent home. Last week he was again seriously stricken and moved to the hospital where death overtook him last Thursday at 6:30 a.m. He was 71 years, five months and 18 days old.
Out-of-town friends and relatives at the funeral were: Clarence Hodne and Tobias Hodne, Coon Repids, Iowa, Lars Hodne and son, Harold, Mr. And Mrs. Andrew Flug and two children, Mr. And Mrs. Bert Benson and two children, Irwin, Iowa; Mr. And Mrs. Fred Hanson and son, Forest Hudson, Flandreau, S. D.; Horace Hudson, Kingsley, Iowa,; Mr. And Mrs. Joe Laux and John Laux, Comfrey; Mr. And Mrs. Andrew Knudson, Butterfield; Mrs. Frank Flatt, Mr. And Mrs. Henry Behrens and son, Laverne, Elgin, Ill. The daughter, Mrs. E. L. Simmonds of Washington state, was unable to attend.
