Mother Of Trumanites Bury Saturday
Saturday afternoon Rev. Waldo Brown of the Truman Church of Christ conducted funeral services for Mrs. Bertha Christina Hudson at the Watonwan Funeral Home at St. James.
Mrs. Husdon passed away at the St. Lucas Hosital at Faribault, Minn., Tuesday afternoon,Aug. 17, where she had been receiving treatment for heart ailment at the age of 82 years.
Bertha Christina Hodne, daughter of Hogen and Ellen Hodne, was born January 16, 1872 at Stavanger, Norway. When she was 10 years of age she came to the U.S. with her parents and settled in Iowa.
On May 2, 1893 she was united in marriage to Wilbur W. Hudson at Harlan, Iowa. In 1912 they came to Minnesota and farmed near St. James. They farmed until 1926 when they retired and took residence in Grogan, Minn. Mr. Hudson passed away in 1938, and in April 1952 Mrs. Hudson gave up her home in Grogan and made her home with her children up to the time of her death.
To Mr. and Mrs. Hudson ten children were born, of whom eight survive. They are Mrs. Ernest Simmonds (Ellen), Bucoda, Wash., Mrs. Hazel Teesink, Marengo, Ill., Mrs. Paul Bosshart, (Sarah) Truman, Minn., Mrs. Emil Gieseke (Susanna), Faribult, Minn., Henry Hudson, Truman, Minn., Wilbur Hudson, Sleepy Eye, Minn., Severt Hudson, St. James, Minn., Purl Hudson, Comfrey, Minn., Jessie (Mrs. Wm. Hoffman) and Ben Hudsonpreceded their mother in death. Also surviving are one brother, Lars Hodne, of Harlan, Iowa, 38 grandchildren, and 47 great-grandchildren.
Burial was in St. Paul's section of Mt. Hope Cemetery at St. James, Minn.
Pallbearers for Mrs. Hudson were Berdines Knudson, GlenWellman, Glen Mossengren Ervin Sawatzky, Hubert Haler and Bodine.
Friends and relatives from a distance who came to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Lars Hodne, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Henderson, Harlan,Iowa, Henry Clara and Dora Hanson of Irwin, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs.Arlowe Hodne of Irwin, Iowa, Selmer and Edgar Hodne Hodne of Manning, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Hudson of Flandreau, S. Dak., Mr. and Mrs. Emil Gieske, Faribault, Minn., Mrs. Edward Sharpsteen and sons of Lamberton, Minn., Joey and Eugene Lodes, Sioux Falls, S. Dak., Mrs. Hazel Teesink and son Lavern Behrens and Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Bentz, Mrs. Ellen Simmonds of Bucoda, Wash., was unable to attend.
