He was born July 30, 1912, in Reedy, W. Va., the son of the late Martin and Mary Eunice Butcher Atkinson. Hubert worked at Goodyear Aerospace for over 30 years, retiring in 1975. He was a longtime member of the Akron Baptist Temple.
He is survived by daughters, Mrs. Carolyn (Bob) Stefanov of Millwood, W. Va., and Mrs. Cyrilla Kay (Dick) Regentin of Akron; sister, Marjorie Lattimer; brothers, Martin Atkinson and Ord Atkinson, all of Spencer, W. Va., and Howard Atkinson of Deland, Fla.; five grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Orlie Boggs Atkinson; sisters, Orpha Ashley, Oshel Atkinson, Ona Board, Blanche Board; and brothers, Walter, Eugene, Ralph, and Oma Atkinson.
Funeral service Thursday, 1 p.m., at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Rd., Akron, with Rev. Bill D. Lee officiating. Burial at Hillside Memorial Park. Friends may call Wednesday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at the funeral home, and from 11 a.m. until service time Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Akron Baptist Temple.
