Howard Calvin Atkinson, 88, of Deland, passed away on June 9, 2013 at his residence. He was born in Roane County , West Virginia on February 9, 1925 and moved to Deland in 1967 from Cocoa. Howard was a World War 11 veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and a store manager for Publix. He loved gardening. Howard is survived by his daughters, Cathy Gruenewald of Deltona and Patsy Cypher of Ohio; brother Martin Atkinson, Jr. of Reedy, WV; sister Margie Lattimer of Spencer, WV; grandchildren George Sheldon and Christy Laudermilk and great-grandchildren Jessica and Justin Laudermilk, Kaitlyn, Logan and Hunter Martin and Delany and Regan Sheldon. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 15th at 12 noon at Calvary Baptist Church in Deland with Reverend Bill Tate officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 650 E. Michigan Ave.,Deland, FL 32724. Online condolences may be made at www.allensummerhillfuneralhome.com.
