Orda Q. Atkinson Sr., 83, of Brandon, Fla., passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Oct. 22, 2006.

Born April 10, 1923, he was originally from Spencer, W.Va., and has resided in Brandon for 48 years. The 12th of 13 children of a West Virginia farmer, Ord became an entrepreneur when he opened the first of four Atkinson's Gift Shops in 1965, and in 1971 opened Atkinson's Giftorama, a wholesale trade show for retail gift buyers, held in the Curtis Hixon Convention Center three times yearly. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Brandon for 20 years.

He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Martha Rader Atkinson.

Family members include his widow, Jo Ann Goodwin Atkinson and her family; two brothers, Martin Atkinson Jr. and Howard Atkinson; a sister, Margie Lattimer; his son, O. Quenten Atkinson Jr.; his daughter, Martha Jayne Bell; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two stepgranddaughters and eight stepgreat-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 27, at Stowers Brandon Chapel, Brandon, Fla., with Dr. Tommy Green officiating. He will be interred in Hillsboro Memorial Gardens, also in Brandon.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to service at the funeral home.
