Martin Atkinson Jr.

Martin Atkinson Jr., 93, of Peniel, died April 6, 2015 at Roane General Hospital, Spencer.

"Junior" was born Aug. 1, 1921 in Roane County, a son of the late Martin and Mary Eunice Butcher Atkinson. He was a residential building contractor and built many fine homes in the area. He enjoyed work and attended Peniel Community Church his entire lifetime.

He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Gretchen and Paul Wood of Heber Springs, Ark.; one son and daughter-in-law, Martin "Rick" and Jeanette Atkinson III of Peniel; one sister, Marjorie Lattimer of Spencer; five grandchildren, Jody Putnam, Jeff Wood, Martin Atkinson IV, Ryan Atkinson and Jesse Wolfe; and four great-grandsons.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Eleanor Conley Atkinson; a granddaughter, Katie Wolfe; a great-grandson, Patrick Wood; three sisters, Orpha Ashley, Ona Board and Blanche Board; and eight brothers, Ralph, Locke, Oma, Ord, Howard, Oshel, Eugene and Walter Atkinson.

Service will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 10, at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Tim Couch officiating. Burial will be in Eventide Cemetery, Spencer.

Visiting hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
