Funeral services for Willard Ellis were held June 30, 1960 from the Anderson Funeral home. Rev. K. K. Hill officiated. Interment was in the Kinkead cemetery. The pallbearers were William a. Froemming, Rudolph Froemming, Reinhold Schultz, Ewald Schultz, Arnold Schultz and C. A. Melin.
Willard C. Ellis was born in Leaf Valley township, Douglas county on Feb. 29, 1880, the son of Willard B. and Hannah Grosenick Ellis. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at the St. James Lutheran church in South Effington. When a young man, Willard homesteaded in Canada and spent many of his younger years on this homestead. He later returned to Leaf Valley where he made his home until twelve years ago when he retired and moved to Alexandria, where he was a resident of the Bethany Home.
He passed away at Our Lady of Mercy hospital in Alexandria, June 27, 1960 at the age of 80 years, 3 months and 27 days. Surviving him are three half brothers: Robert Wangerin of Leaf Valley, Louis Wangerin of Garfield, Theodore Wangerin of Forada and one half-sister (Dora) Mrs. Carl Zinter of Parkers Prairie. He was preceded in death by one sister, three brothers, one half-sister and one half-brother.
