Joseph Herman Moore, 80, of Smithsburg died at the Garlock Nursing Home on Saturday morning.

He was born and reared in Green Spring Furnace, and was the son of Joseph H. and Sophie Ward Moore.


He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ of Clear Spring.


He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Devona Small Moore; daughters, Mrs. Thelma Brennan of Clear Spring, Mrs. Genevieve Talhelm of Smithsburg; sons, Donald H., Gene R. and Darryl, all of Hagerstown;

13 grandchildren: seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Mrs. Ethel Yeakle of Hagerstown, Mrs. Mazie Shupp and Mrs. Dorothy Ebersole, both of Clear Spring; brothers, Hubert of Downsville, Stanley and

Abram, both of Conococheague.


Services will be held at the Coffman funeral home on Tuesday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Nevin K. Smith will officiate; burial in St. Paul's Cemetery, Western Pike. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 7 to 9.
