Leah, beloved wife of Michael Petri, was born in Oasis, Utah to Lars Hansen and Albie Merl Nichols on September 2, 1923.
She attended school in Deseret and Hinckley, Utah. While hop-scotching on the sidewalk in Salt Lake City with her sisters, she met the love of her life and married him while he was a cook and translator in the Army.
She always said the hardest part of cooking was trying to cut a recipe for 2000 G.I.'s down to two people. Leah loved gardening, both inside and outside. She was a fantastic cook and housekeeper. She loved to do embroidery, read, and work puzzles.
But above all, she loved holding hands with Michael. When asked how long they were married, she always said "99 years!" Leah and Michael lived in many places, South Dakota, Texas, Salt Lake City, Lehi, Walls-burg, and Provo, but they especially loved the years they spent divided between here and Germany.
Leah is the mother of Sarah Verniece (Ron) Ellis of Heber; grandmother of three, Michael Earl Ellis (deceased), James Melvin Ellis (Heber), and Rhonda Cramm (Oregon); great-grandmother of seven. She has three remaining sisters and two brothers. Preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Hilda Myrl Hansen, and her grandson, Michael.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 27, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. in the Charleston Ward Chapel, 3450 South 3500 West, Charleston. A visitation will be held at the Church from 12:00-1:00 p.m. prior to the services.
Interment will be at the Heber City Cemetery.
