On 9 January, 1854, he married Mary Ann Gooch, daughter of Thomas Gooch and Martha Edwards, in Blenheim, Oxford, Ontario, Canada. They were married by Rev. Joseph Shepley, Wesleyan Methodist Church. The marriage was witnessed by John S Partridge and Emma Gooch.
Joseph and Mary Ann were the parents of 10 children: Henry Thomas, Sarah Eliza, Joseph Edward, Emma Jane, Noah Rouse, Samuel John., Issac William, Robert Walker, Richard Good, and Frederick James Leader.
Joseph died 20 October, 1877 in Blenheim, Oxford, Ontario, Canada, and was buried at Plattsville Cemetery.
