Edwin Alberts, son of Henry Alberts of Brillion and who is the radio operator on the Reiss steamer, Wm. K. Fields, one of the largest freighters on the lakes, in a letter home gives a graphic tale of his encounter, the big ship had with the recent blow that proved disastrous to the carferry Milwaukee. It took the boat five days to go from Duluth
to Detroit and sixty hours were required to cross Lake Superior. So severe was the storm that no one was able to go out on deck for a 36 hour period. Edwin C. Alberts, 59, died at his home at 610 Wilder Wednesday after being stricken with an apparent heart attack.
Alberts was born in Brillion, Wisconsin, July 5, 1909 and attended schools there. He also graduated from a radio school in Milwaukee, Wis., and served in the Merchant Marine for six years. He was employed as a combination manager for 22 years by Northwest Airlines and also by Western Airlines, retiring several years ago. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, whom he married June 30, 1938 in Billings; a son,
Richard E., Seattle; a brother, Walter, Antiock, Wis.; five sisters, Irene Mathiebe, Brillion, Wis.; Ruth Voet, Kaukana,
Wis.; Pauline Justin, Los Angeles, Calif.; Hattie Eller, Sturgis, Michigan and Erna Kaemmer, Sheboygan, Wis.
Rosary will be recited at 7a.m. Friday at St. Helena Cahedral and requiem mass will be said at 9 a.m. Saturday at
St. Helena Cathedral. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Pallbearers are Hugh Kelleher, Joe Flynn, Charles T. Morgan, James Higgins, Ernest Jacques and the Rev. Donald
Brown. Hagler Funeral Home is in charge.
