༺⊰❁ Elva Simpson Sterling was the daughter of Henry and Angeline Rust Simpson, born on July 9, 1890 in Branch Hill, Ohio. She married Percy Sterling, the love of her life, on April 9, 1913 in Cincinnati, Ohio. For most of their lives together they lived in Amelia, Ohio.
Known Children of Percy and Elva Simpson Sterling:
1) Lester Sterling, born September 22, 1914, died October 30, 1979;
2) Mildred Sterling, born November 30, 1916, married Russel Smith and had 2 children, divorced on August 12, 1936, married Owen D. Stockton on January 17, 1947 and had 6 children;
3) Bernice Sterling, born April 22,1921, married Charles Gee and had 4 children;
4) Robert Leroy Sterling, born November 18, 1925, Indianapolis, IN, married Nancy Campbell, 1 child, divorced, married Meriel Steinberger, had 2 children, died November 9, 1999 in Cincinnati, OH;
5) Donald Sterling, born September 13, 1929, married Jean Broch, had 4 children, divorced, and married his beloved Pauline Maxey, no children.
After we moved to Loveland, OH. I remember her rocking in her favorite rocking chair by the window in her bedroom. By then she was almost completely blind. She would crochet the most beautiful and delicate dollies from memory by feeling the thread in her fingers as she carefully worked the crochet hook. I would often slip into her room to visit and she would always give me candy from her "secret stash" she always kept in her drawer. It was usually gumdrops or lemon drops, her favorite candies. Then as I lay across her lap she would lightly tickle my back, then gently scratch it and finally softly rub my back. Everything seemed right in the world because of her love.
When my older half-sister Elva Mae Sterling married Ronald Kinner and had Kristine Alice, they moved in to live with my parents. At this time Grandma Elva decided to move in with her daughter Bernice who lived in Fosters, Ohio, then identified as part of Maineville, OH. It wasn't long after that she died in her sleep from old age. Finally she was back in the arms of the only man she ever loved and in the presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She is loved and very much missed by the family.
She is buried next to her beloved Percy in the Amelia Odd Fellows Cemetery. There is no headstone, only a corner marker with the letter "S" engraved into it. They are buried to the right of the round mausoleum, which is now used as a tool shed.

May Grandma Elva always rest in the grace and love of our Lord.

Thank you to Hans for the lovely photos.
