Justice. 2nd Husband Steven Miller.

Donald and Martha Jean divorced, and Donald married Gladys Pauline Maxey Maxey. No children from this union.

Don said he had worked for the Cincinnati Ford Assembly during the riots in 1968 as a foreman. During the pending riots in 1968 after Martin Luther King had been assinated on April 4, 1963 many of the men began to carry guns for protection. Word went around that a riot was going to take place, so Don decided for the first time to carry a concealed handgun for protection. That day men passed word among the workers that the police were in the plant doing a check for those carrying weapons, and making arrests. When word reached Don he was working on assembling an oil tank on a car in the line. He quickly slipped his gun into the oil pan and sealed it up, on down the assembly line the car rolled, and on out the door. By the time the police checked Don and the other workers in his line his gun was long gone. He said the police missed catching him with his gun by about 5 minutes. He checked out clear of weapons and continued with his work. Some men were not fast enough and were caught with their weapons, and were arrested. The riots did break out, but Don had made it home safely after work, and somewhere someone would be buying a 1968 Ford automobile, and when they later checked the oil tank on their car they would find a gun hidden and sealed in the oil tank, no identifying markings would be found on the gun that had been hidden away. After his brother Robert Lester "Bob" Sterling passed away in 1999 Don would always call to keep in touch with his widow Meriel, and when in town he would stop in for a visit and help do things that she was not able to do. When Meriel passed away he continued to keep in touch with the family, and offered a home with him to one of the children if it was needed. His kindness will always be remembered and he will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Donald was a member of the Masons, and attended a local Southern Baptist church as long as he was able to do so.

Donald contracted pneumonia, and soon after was placed in the care of Hospice in the home of his daughter Carrie. He passed away not long after on November 29, 2023 at 8:30 PM. Don said he was ready and looking forward to going Home to be with the Lord in Heaven, and with his beloved second wife. He was brought back to Ohio and buried next to Pauline.

Uncle Don may you rest well and find eternal peace praising our Lord Jesus Christ for His mercies and love. Forever in the hands of our Saviour.
