RAYMOND JEROME RICHTER
Hingham — Raymond Jerome Richter, 69, died Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000 at a Chester hospital after a year-long bout with lung cancer.
Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Inverness. Burial with military rites will follow at the Inverness Cemetery.
Richter was born Oct. 15, 1931 in Havre to Margaret Schwan and George Richter. He grew up in the Inverness community and received his formal education there. He worked for area farmers.
Richter was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1952. He served in Company "B" of the 811th Engineering Aviation Battalion. At the time of his honorable discharge, Richter transferred to the Army Reserve Corps.
Richter returned to Montana and took a mechanic job at the Hannah-Holmes dealership in Shelby. A short time later, he moved to Missoula to work as a mechanic for his brother. He returned to Hingham in 1955 and married Viola Johnson. They later divorced. He remained in Hingham for five years and worked for Lipp Motors.
In 1960, he took a job at A-C Supply in Havre. After three years, he decided to go into business on his own. He operated Richter Farm Service in Hingham for the past 35 years. He retired in 1998 and continued to live in Hingham.
Richter's hobbies included hunting, playing cards (especially poker), and socializing with his friends. He enjoyed watching television and took pride in his mechanic skills.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, George, Joseph, Jake and Edwin; sisters, Lena, Mary and Agnes; two infant siblings.
Survivors include his son, Michael Richter of Spokane, Wash.; brothers, John Richter of Havre, Chris Richter of Hingham, and Frank Richter of Joplin; sisters, Francy Fraser of Joplin and Virginia Adams of Inverness; numerous nephews and nieces.
