Edwin Peter Richter
Edwin Peter Richter was born March 19, 1933, in Havre, MT. He was one of 15 children born to Margaret Schwan and George Richter. Eddie grew up in the Inverness community and received his education in Joplin. Following graduation from Joplin High School in 1951 he began working in the automobile repair business. In 1953, during the Korean conflict, he was inducted into the U.S. Army. He served in Germany in the Company A 67th Tank Battalion. Following his honorable discharge in 1955, he returned to Montana. Eddie continued to work as a self-employed auto body repairman in the Missoula and Kalispell communities. He and his wife, the former Val Dickerson, lived in Shelby for a few years before moving to Traverse City, Mich., in 1986. While in Michigan, Ed continued to work in auto body repair. They recently purchased a home in Alba, Mich.
Eddie collapsed at home this past Saturday afternoon, Mar. 23, and he died at the Kalkaska Memorial Hospital a short time later. He had just celebrated his 58th birthday a few days before.
Ed had been a member of the Moose Lodge and the VFW Post in Kalispell. He loved the great outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, and music and dancing. He loved pets and always had a few dogs and cats around his house. In his spare time he enjoyed restoring old vehicles.
Ed is survived by his wife, Val of Alba, Mich.; one daughter, Terry Richter of Kalispell; three sons, Gregg and Brad of Wasilla, Alaska; Byron of Montana; three step-sons, Eddie, Jim, and Paul; four brothers, John of Havre, Mont.; Chris and Ray of Hingham; Frank of Joplin; three sisters, Agnes Mader of Great Falls; Francy Fraser of Inverness; and Virginia Adams of Inverness; two granddaugters. Ed was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, George, Joseph, and Jake; two sisters, Lena Shore and Mary Mader; and by two infant siblings.
It was Eddie's wish to be buried with his family in Montana. Military rites at the Inverness cemetery.
