PLAYED BALL AT OLD HAMMON
Three members of Hammon's first Junior High base ball team met recently, when they attended the golden wedding anniversary celebration of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Stout at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Dugger. In the picture, left to right Bill Stout, Fresno, Calif., Newt Turner, Hammon, and Lloyd Stout, Elk City. The team was organized in 1905 at old Hammon; at that time Bill was 12 years of age, Newt, 14 years, and Lloyd 15 years. They played at New Hammon in 1909.
In September 1963 Newt was living in/near Hammon.

Newt Turner was born 8 March 1891 in Ola Navajoe east of Altus, Oklahoma Territory, died 6(sic) March 1979(sic) Elk City, Oklahoma.
Newt and his first wife, Eliza Caroline Stanford, were married on 10 September 1911 in Hammon, Oklahoma, while sitting in a buggy. Eliza was born 7 September 1895, near Breckenridge, in the Necessity Community, Stephens County, Texas, died 30 May 1954 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, while visiting her daughter. Newt and Eliza had seven children together.
Newt married 2nd, Opal Willis at Hammon, Oklahoma, September 1956.
When Newt Turner was two years old the family moved to Wapanucka, where they ranched and farmed for several years. In 1894, they moved to Pauls Valley, where they lived for five years. They then moved to Old Day County, Oklahoma Territory, Now Roger Mills County, Oklahoma, to a ranch west of Hammon, Oklahoma, where Newt spent the remainder of his life. He was a farmer and rancher.
Note: Crane Cemetery book has the death date as 6 March 1979 in error. The Beckham County, Death Cert Index shows date as 10 March 1978 is correct.

Funeral services for Newt Turner, longtime Hammon rancher who died Friday night at the community Hospital, will be conducted from the Hammon Church of Christ on Sunday at 2 p.m. with Bro. Albert Trent and Bro. Dwight Holland officiating. Burial will follow in the Red Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Turner was born March 8, 1891 at Old Navajo, Oklahoma. He was 87.
He was married to Eliza Stanford at Hammon on Sept. 10, 1011 and she preceded him in death on May 30, 1954. He was married to Opal Willis at Hammon in September, 1956, and she survives him.
When he was 2 yeas old the family moved to Wapanucka where they were ranching and farming for 1 year, then moved to Pauls Valley in 1894 where they lived for some 5 years then moved to Old Day County, which is now Roger Mills County, to a ranch west of Hammon where he had lived since.
Survivors include his wife Opal of the home, 2 sons, Durward Turner of Guthrie and Wayne Turner of Elk City; 4 daughters, Hetiwa Thomas and Inez Gilson, both of Oklahoma City, Imo Jean Ozenberger of Guymon, and Cosette Emerson of Meeker; 2 step-daughters, Reva Barrow and Louise Gunter, both of Canute; also 22 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one son, Dale.
Services are under the direction of the Martin Funeral Home.
