Frederick was a Civil War veteran. He was wounded in the foot. His occupation was that of a "pumpmaker", and then later as a "laborer". His mother was Barbara (Riegel) Winkelman, who went WEST, first to Illinois, then to Iowa to reside with her daughter, Susanna (Winkelman) Dale. Barbara is presumed buried in the Arnold/Robinson Cemetery, in Urbana Township, Monroe County, Iowa, as that is where Susanna and her husband George Dale were buried., as well as John Winkelman and his wife Elizabeth, who accompanied Barbara on the trip out west.
