Nell Mae Thurmond was born on August 14, 1902, in Fresno, California, the middle of 9 children born to Jeff & Lillie (Gilmore) Thurmond. The family moved to Lodi shortly after Nell's birth, a town she called home until she married Carlton Bonham there in 1921.
Carlton & Nell were parents to one child, Carl Jr, who gave them 5 grandchildren. They moved to Alameda county, and lived there until Nell became of victim of breast cancer, and passed away in Castro Valley at the age of 64.
