William Weare Dies; Was Ord's Oldest Citizen
Nonagenarian Passed Wednesday At Palmatier Home; Was Legend Here of Early Days
"Old Bill" Weare is dead. In the nickname there is nothing of ridicule or derision, for it was the name under which he became a legend in the Ord or early days. Weare, who passed away at 1:30 p.m. last Wednesday, March 1, was ninety-two years old and was thought to be Ord's oldest resident. A brick mason by trade, he came here over fifty years ago and made Ord his home continuously until his death. He was a prominent member of the Masonic lodge for several years.
Mr. Weare was born Nov. 14, 1840 in Allegan, Michigan, the son of Richard and Julia Weare. He never married and after coming to Ord occupied bachelor apartments for many years in the building next to the Wentworth Opera House. He was a particular friend and crony of Alfred "Dad" Sherman who passed away a few years ago.
In ill health for the past few years, Mr. Weare was tenderly cared for by Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Palmatier and it was at their home that he died last Wednesday.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. L. M. Real at the Sowl chapel Friday, organ music being furnished by Mrs. Ruth Cushing and pallbeares being Frank Koupal, James Misko, Fred Kuehl, James VanSkike. R.O. Huner and Frank J. Dworak Interment was in Ord cemetery..
