Burney Weare died at 80 years 6 months and 1 day old. He grew to manhood at Otsego, Michigan and was married to Sarah Elizabeth Coffin July 17, 1875 and they came to Nebraska and settled in Valley County the same year, being among the very earliest settlers not only in the county, but in Ord. They moved to Mitchell 19 years ago and about 6 years ago moved again, settling at Azusa, California where a brother of Mrs. Weare, M.J. Coffin, lived at that time. Mrs. Weare died there September 3, 1924 and since that time Mr. Weare has made his home with his children, mostly Mrs. Nordstrom. Nine children were born to Mr. & Mrs. Weare and 7 of them remain to mourn the going of their father. They are Mrs. Ethel Jennings of Mitchell, Nebraska, Mrs. Alma Nordstrom of Los Angeles, Walter Weare of Morrison, Colorado, John Weare of Marsland, Nebraska, Mrs. Olive Kerr of San Bernadino, California, Ruth Stevens of Portland, Oregon and Helen Felton of Marshfield, Oregon. There are also two sisters; Mrs. Carrie Jones and Mrs. Buell of Washington and three brothers; William Weare of Ord, Steve Weare of Greeley, and another brother, Ned Weare who is supposed to be in Washington. During many years of his residence in Ord, the deceased was an active member of the IOOF Lodge and the local lodge had part in the funeral services at the grave Tuesday afternoon. The funeral was held from the M.E. Church with Rev. Maynard officiating and burial was in the family lot in the Ord Cemetery beside Mrs. Weare and her two children. During most of the years of his life in Ord, the deceased devoted much of his time to following his trade as a mason. He was always active in lodge work and served as marshal and deputy sheriff at times. Burney Weare was a good man and a good neighbor and known as a good friend by those who knew him.
