John J Cockrell is listed for Buffalo, Harper County, Oklahoma, 64, married, with son Wayne, 10.
Nora Cockrell is listed for Supply, Woodward County, Oklahoma, 41, married, and a "patient" in the Northwestern Oklahoma State Hospital. She is also listed in the same facility on the 1940 census, age 50, "divorced". U.S. Social Security Death Index shows she died 15 Sep 1969 in Oklahoma.

No death record could be found for John J. Cockrell.

The great grandson of Thomas Jefferson and Keziah Cockrell, Claude R. Cunningham, wrote "A Documentary and Biography of the Cockrell Family Name Compiled February 1, 1985," in which he recounts Cockrell family history. Thomas Jefferson Cockrell married Keziah C. Church in "1851 and they spent the first two years of their married life in Illinois. They then decided to go to Cass County, Missouri remaining there for four years. They then decided to move to Newton County, Southern Missouri where they lived for 26 years. From Newton County Missouri they moved to Miami County Kansas and then to Oklahoma but after four years they returned to Kansas and spent the last six years in Riley Kansas."
