Martha Ann, known as Mattie, was the ninth of nine children born to Henderson County pioneer Benjamin Coleman Coghill and Mary Ann Ellett. She grew up in Henderson County and, around 1873, married Lucilius Pollard, also of Henderson County. To this union were born four children: Edwin, Winifred, Willard, and Clara. In 1904 Martha and her husband left Henderson county and retired to Monmouth. She survived her husband by only two years.
