Hazel M. Sipe, 89, of New Centerville, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed on May 19, 2001, at home. Born April 28, 1912, in Savage, daughter of the late Ferris C. and Edna P. (Shumaker) Ringer. Preceded in death by husband Karl in 1973, sisters Ferne Gard and Dorothy Felton, and brother F. Jay Ringer. Survived by children: Edward B., married to Faye (Marker) Sipe of New Centerville, Erle W., married to Shirley (Knupp) Sipe of New Paris, and Linda, married to R. Devon Bowman of Somerset; grandchildren Amy Jo Sout, Mark E. Sipe, Duane and Doug Sipe, Larissa Bowman, and Juliane Bowman-Brown; great-grandchildren, Joshua Broucher, Bethany and Katelyn Stout, and Zachary Sipe. Sister of Myrna Madjerich of S.C., Lois Peters of Davidsville, Mary Newton of Fla., Ruth Shaffer of Somerset, William Ringer of Carlisle, Robert and Karl Ringer of N.Y., and Donald Ringer of Fla. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews whom she remembered faithfully. Member of Messiah Lutheran Church in New Centerville, where she participated in the Altar Guild, Cradle Roll and the Willing Workers Sunday School Class. Charter member of the New Centerville and Rural Fire Dept. Ladies' Auxiliary. She was a 70-plus year member of the Milford Grange where she was involved on the state-wide level and cooked at the Grange Hall for many years. A past winner of the Grant B. Miller Chamber of Commerce Award for Outstanding Citizen, she had many years of service at the Somerset Hospital in the RSVP program. She was a past Judge of Elections for Milford Twp., and had many years of involvement in the New Centerville Farmers' and Threshermen's Jubilee and the Kingwood Picnic. An avid quilter who quilted for the Lutheran Church and Firemen's Auxiliary Quilters organizations. She lived at the family farm in Milford Township since 1934. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Miller Funeral Home, Somerset. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Messiah Lutheran Church with Pastor Gene Abel officiating. Visitation one hour prior to service. Interment, Union Cemetery, New Centerville. Memorial contributions may be sent to Messiah Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, Rockwood, Pa., 15557, or the New Centerville and Rural Fire Dept. at 3054 Kingwood Rd., Rockwood, Pa., 15557.
