Mrs. Elizabeth Honl Dies Suddenly
The old saying that troubles never come singly proved true to the Altermatt family the past week. Frank Altermatt was ill for many years and passed away at the home of his son, John, at Wanda Friday. During his last illness his sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Honl of Morgan assisted in caring for him. Sunday morning, the day of Mr. Altermatt's funeral, Mrs. Honl arose at about four o'clock with the intention of helping the family of her nephew with the usual household duties and to prepare for the services. She apparently was as well as usual. Mrs. Honl was a Christian scientist and it was her habit to spend a short time each morning after arising in reading. The morning of her death she went to the porch of the Altermatt home and was reading when her niece, Mrs. Kuehn, went out and spoke to her. She seemed to choke slightly and asked Mrs. Kuehn to read to her. Mrs. Kuehn noticed that Mrs. Honl did not look well and summoned a physician. A few minutes later she passed away before the arrival of the doctor. Upon his arrival he pronounced her death due to heart trouble.
Mrs. Honl was born in Wisconsin seventy years ago on June 20th. She came to Leavenworth with her parents when a little child where she resided until she was united in marriage to Adolph Honl about thirty-eight years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Honl lived on a farm near Morgan and in the village of Morgan practically all their married life. Mr. Honl passed away about a year and a half ago,.
Mrs. Honl is survived by three step children, namely: Joseph Honl of Morgan; Mrs. George Dayton [Mrs. Elias Dayton Sherman or Mary Ann Honl Sherman] and William Honl of Franklin; and four brothers, Gust. Altermatt of Alberta, Canada; Robert of Leavenworth township; Herman of Orlando, Fla.; and Emil of Comfrey. She was the only daughter in a family of twelve.
The funeral was held at the Presbyterian church at Morgan yesterday afternoon and burial was made in the cemetery north of Morgan.
