Robert Altermatt, well known resident of Leavenworth township, died at his home there last Saturday morning shortly after 10 o'clock following a long illness of Bright's disease and uremic poisoning caused his demise. Mr. Altermatt had been ill for a period of five years, and the last eight months he was confined to his bed.
The deceased was born in Buffalo County Wisconsin, July 4, 1861 and was thus past his 66th birthday. At the age of three years he came to this state with his parents, who settled on a farm in Leavenworth township. With the exception of three years spent in Montana and a short time spent in Springfield, Mr. Altermatt had spent his life in Leavenworth township. He was married to Miss Theresa Koherr [sic] at Sleepy eye, February 29, 1888. Four children blessed this union, two of whom preceded their father in death. The two who remain with their mother to mourn are Edward H. and Robert F. Altermatt, both at home. Five grandchildren and the following three brothers also survive: Emil Altermatt of Comfrey; Herman Altermatt of Orlando, Florida and Gustav Altermatt of Alberta, Canada.
Funeral services were held from the home last Tuesday afternoon, Rev. W. J. Walker of Sleepy Eye officiating. Interment was made in Home cemetery at Sleepy Eye.
