EUGENE L. VONDAL, 81, PASSES AWAY

Eugene L. Vondal, 81, of Walhalla, passed away Thursday, July 3, 1980 at 12:45 a.m., at the Pembina County Memorial Hospital in Cavalier. Mr. Vondal, a retired farmer, had been in ill health for the past year.

Funeral services for Mr. Vondal were held from the St. Boniface Catholic Church in this city Saturday, July 5, at 10:00 a.m. Father Carey officiated at theh services and interment was in St. Boniface Cemetery, with Nelson Funeral Home of Walhalla in charge of arrangements.

Eugene L. Vondal was born December 12, 1898 at Walhalla to Arthur and Eugenie Vondal and farmed his entire life in Fremont Township west of this city. He married Susan S. Furstenau October 17, 1828 [sic] (should be 1928) at Walhalla. They moved to Walhalla in 1958 and she survives along with one daughter, Mrs. James (Ruth) Beaton of Bloomington, Minnesota; one son, Leonard Vondal of Hopkins, Minnesota; two grandchildren and one great-grandson; and three sisters, Mrs. Rachel Krause, Williston, Mrs. Irene Chaput, Long Beach, California, and Mrs. Albertine Crandall of Montana. Mr. Vondal was preceded in death by his parents.

He was treasurer of the Fremont School Board for a number of years, and was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in this city.

Active pallbearers were Lane Jackson, Leo Keeling, Dean Jackson, Francis Yeado, Art Gapp, and Myron Kemnitz. Organist was Mrs. Bernadine Kopf and music was provided by the St. Boniface Church Choir. Ted Dunnigan was the usher.

They had two children: Leonard R. Vondal and Ruth L. Vondal Beaton
