Edward C. Welty Dies At Kearney
Edward Cyrus Welty, son of John H. and Myrtie B. Welty, was born on the original Welty homestead southwest of Arcadia March 21, 1894, and departed this life at Kearney, Nebraska, February 1, 1961, at the age of 66 years, 10 months, and 11 days.
He is survived by four brothers, Lee, Kersey and George of Kearney, and John of Arcadia, and six sisters, Blanche Welty, Emma Hodge and Charlotte Smith of Kearney, Lillie Bridges of Spring Valley, Minn., Virginia Bridges, Forrest Grove, Oregon, and Lucille Minne of Lincoln. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and a brother, Arthur.
He lived in the Arcadia vicinity until 1936 and then moved to Kearney, where he resided until his death. Funeral services were conducted at Kearney February 4th with graveside services at the Arcadia cemetery the same afternoon.
Mr. Welty was a shining example of courage to all who knew him, having been a semi-invalid from childhood, a victim of polio.
In spite of his disability he was an ardent sports fan and loved to hunt and fish. One of his greatest accomplishments in life was the many friends he made. He was a helpful, thoughtful and loving brother and his memory will be cherished forever by his relatives and many friends.
