At the age of 3 years his mother died and he made his home with his grandparents at Beemer, Ohio for five years when his father remarried and they moved to Burlington Junction, Mo. Two years later his father died and he remained with his step-mother until he was 25 years of age. On September 23, 1888 he was united in marriage to Miss Myrtle Belle Terhune at Arcadia, Nebraska, where they have since resided with the exception of 6 years spent in Missouri. Twelve children, six boys and six girls were born to this union all of whom were present when their father passed away. They are Ed, George, John, Arthur, Lee, Kersey Mrs. Elmer Bridges, Mrs. Ivan Bridges, Mrs. John Minnie, Blanch, Charlotte and Emma. Besides the children he leaves his wife, five grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends and acquaintances to mourn his demise.
For several years Mr. Welty was a member of the Sherman county Board of Commissioners and was active as well in his township and community interests until failing health a few years ago prevented his further activities.
Mr. Welty was a kind husband, loving father and peaceable neighbor and his many acts of kindness will long be remembered by all who associated with him. The funeral services were largely attended and were conducted from the home Sunday afternoon, Rev. Alcorn officiating with interment in the Arcadia Cemetery. The bereft family has the heartfelt sympathy of a large circle of friends in this the first break in their large family circle.
