The son of Benjamin and Rowena Johnson Grandy. He enlisted in and served from Wolcott with Co. G, NY 9th H.A. Regmt. during the Civil War. He first married and was divorced from Margarett Wolven. His second wife was Jane McKeon by whom he had three children: George C., Claude H. and Ella 'Ethel' Grandy. Sometime between 1860-1870 the family moved from New York state to Michigan. William passed away in the town of Hayes.
