GREAT FALLS ÷ Hildegarde Spicher, 85, a former resident of Hingham, died Monday, May 10, 1999, at a Chester hospital.
Vigil Prayer Services will be 7 p.m. Thursday at the Hillcrest Lawn Memorial Mausoleum Chapel in Great Falls. Funeral Mass will be 2 p.m. Friday at Our Lady of Ransom Catholic Church in Hingham. Interment of ashes will be at the Hingham Cemetery.
Spicher was born Sept. 17, 1913, north of Hingham, to William and Anna (Muller) Gehlen. She grew up in the Hingham Community and received her education there. She graduated from Hingham High School in 1932. She was later employed as a waitress and hospital housekeeper in Havre.
On Dec. 27, 1934, she married Rodney Spicher at Hingham. The couple resided in Hingham. He died in 1964. She moved to the Devonshire Townhouses in Great Falls in 1976. In 1994 she moved to her daughter's home in Great Falls until March when she entered to Liberty County Hospital and Nursing Home for extended care.
Spicher was a member of Our Lady of Ransom Catholic Church in Hingham and was active in the Altar Society. She was also a member of the Hingham Rebeccah Lodge and the Great Falls Elks Club. She enjoyed bowling, dancing, playing bridge, bingo, video poker machines, cooking, and traveling.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Lynne in 1969, a grandson, Joey in 1972, four sisters, Esther Murray, Clara Donoven, Monica Lindstrom and Lorraine Doris, and three brothers, Alfred, Alphonse, and Ray Gehlen.
Survivors include two daughters, Charlene Bibler and Gail Meyer of Great Falls; sons, Daryl Spicher and Bill Spicher of Hingham; a brother, Bill Gehlen of Great Falls; ten grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the Hi-Line Health Foundation in Chester, the Gift of Life in Great Falls, or the Peace Hospice of Great Falls.
