John Eppley, retired farmer and former member of the South Middleton Township School Board, died last night at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Shughart, Carlisle, R.D. 1, in Monroe Township, with whom he resided. He was aged 77.

Mr. Eppley was born in South Middleton Township, the son of John and Matilda Sheaffer Eppley, and for 18 years was connected with the school board there, 16 as director and two as secretary. More recently he served for three years as a custodian at the courthouse, a position he filled for three years. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the Martin Luther Bible Class.

Survivors are his daughter, Mrs. Shughart; six grandchildren, Mrs. Kenneth Meyers, Carlisle, and Lester, Glenn, Arlene, Harold and Sherwood Shughart, Monroe Township; two brothers, William A. and M. Luther Eppley, both of Carlisle. His wife, who died in 1926, was Rebecca Weibley Eppley.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon from the J.R. Shulenberger funeral home where friends may call Thursday night. Burial will be in the Old Graveyard, his pastor, Rev. Dr. H.B. Stock, officiating.

Services for John Eppley, who died Sunday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Raymond Shughart, Carlisle R.D. 1, were held this afternoon at the J.R. Shulenberger funeral home. Burial was in the Old Graveyard. Rev. Dr. Harry B. Stock officiated. The pallbearers were William G. Rice, Albert Thumma, Chester A. Brenneman, M.R. Whitcomb, Arthur Dunkleberger and Eugene Ryder.
