Dorothy J. "Joyce" Depies, of 2915 N. Meade St., 72, passed away Monday, Oct. 5, 1998, at Appleton Medical Center.
She was born April 17, 1927 in New Holstein, the daughter of Frieda (Wieseckel) and the late Arthur Depies. Joyce later moved to Hilbert and was a graduate of Hilbert High School. Following graduation, she trained as a child nurse at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago.
During the Korean Conflict, Joyce served two tours with the Women's Air Force, where she was stationed in Europe. After her discharge, she worked as a child nurse in San Francisco, until illness forced her retirement and eventual move to Appleton.
Joyce loved to paint, write poetry and take continuing education classes. She was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Disabled American Veterans and American Legion Post 38 of Appleton.
Survivors include her mother, Frieda, Hilbert; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Rainer and Margaret Depies, Green Bay; and Jerry and Joyce Depies, Appleton; also nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Thursday, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, corner of Glendale and McDonald Sts., Appleton, with the Rev. Gerald Falk officiating. Friends may call directly at the CHURCH, from 10 a.m., Thursday, until the time of services. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Chilton.
