JOSEPH FAIRFIELD, THORNTOWN RESIDENT, CLAIMED AT 83
"Joseph W. Fairfield, 83, a resident of Thorntown community for over 50 years, died at 8:25 pm Monday at Witham Hospital where he had been a patient 10 days. He had been in failing health six years. Last rites are set for 2 pm Thursday at the Russell and Hitch Funeral Home in Thorntown with the Rev. Edwin Johnson officating. Interment will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery in Thorntown. Friends may call at the Russell and Hitch Funeral Home beginning 7 pm today. Fairfield had resided in Thorntown and surrounding community most of his married life. He had engaged in farming, formerly worked for the Hicks body Company and the past several years had operated a salvage yard. He attended the Wesleyan Methodist Church at Thorntown. He was born in Colfax, March 4, 1884, the son of Daniel Webster and Catherine (Crull) Fairfield. He was married August 8 1913 to Goldie Thoey, who survives. Surviving in addition to the widow are four daughters, Mrs. Mable Barker and Mrs. Clara Goode both of Thorntown, Mrs. Lottie Cole of Lebanon and Mrs. Dorothy Unaganst of Glendale, AZ: Six sons, Jesse, Eugene, Ernest and Clancy, all of Thorntown, Floyd W. and Melvin Fairfield, both of Lebanon, two brothers, John Fairfield of Lebanon and Roy Fairfield of Thorntown, a sister, Mrs. Julie Hillman of Frankfort, a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren and several neices and nephews. Two sons and eight brothers and sisters preceded him in death."
