Vernon Whilmer Peterson, 87, of Stromsburg, passed away Aug. 7, 2012 at Annie Jeffrey Memorial County Health Center in Osceola.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 10, 2012 at 10 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Osceola with Pastor Dan Cloeter officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday, Aug. 9 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Dubas Funeral Home in Stromsburg. Interment will be in the Osceola Cemetery.
Dubas Funeral Home of Stromsburg and Osceola have been entrusted with arrangements.
Vernon was born May 9, 1925 to Andrew E. and Selma E. (Anderson) Peterson at his home northwest of Stromsburg. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Osceola.
He attended Dist. 50 country school and graduated from Stromsburg High School in 1942.
Following high school he worked in Omaha for one winter at a packing plant and then returned home and began farming with his dad on the family farm northwest of Stromsburg.
On June 1, 1947 he was united in marriage to Mary Elaine Carlson at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Osceola. To this union four children were born.
Vernon continued farming and occasionally hauled livestock to Omaha. He retired and moved into Stromsburg in March of 1988.
He and his wife enjoyed their home in Stromsburg until Vernon moved to the Osceola Good Samaritan Society in January of 2008 where he resided until his passing.
His favorite pastime was having coffee and visiting with people. He enjoyed bowling and listening to Polka music. He especially enjoyed his children, grandchildren and great-grand children.
He was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Osceola and had served on the church council.
He was preceded in death by his parents Andrew and Selma Peterson; one brother Kenneth Peterson and one sister Evelynne Oberg.
