Alice Caroline Byram Criswell
Mrs. Alice Criswell, widow of the late Marcus Criswell, who was born January 29 1860, departed this life April 16, 1935, aged 75 years, two months and 25 days. She was born and reared in Grundy County, and married on October 9, 1881 to Marcus Criswell who preceeded her to death on Jan 20, 1926. To this union six children were born, two of whom preceeded her in death at an early age. The surviving are Mrs. Mary Foster, at whose home she died. Mrs. Edith Darr of Linneus, Missouri, Mrs. Dora Newkirk, Trenton, and Walter Criswell, Trenton.
Sixteen grandchildren are living and one dead. Four great-grandchildren are living and two dead. One sister, Mrs. Rebecca Carson of Trenton, survives.
She embraced religion at an early age, being a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian church, and later on, moving to Oklahoma, united with the First Baptist Church at Parkland and upon returning to Missouri she became a member of the First Baptist Church, Trenton. She had been in declining health for the past five years and bore her pain with much patience. She was bedfast two weeks before the end. All that loving hands could do was done on her behalf. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Music was furnished by a quartet composed of Mrs. J.C. Greenoe (pastor's wife), Mrs. Ritta Ginn, Frank Norton and Homer Browning, who sang two numbers, "When They Ring Those Golden Bells", and "Will The Circle Be Broken". Floyd Foster sang a solo, "Going Down The Valley". Pallbearers were Dean Hamilton, Albert Sayer, Fred Thomas, Lennie Foster, Oscar Mack, and Edd Rossin. Flower bearers were Eunice Hamilton, Anna Sayer, Jewell Thomas, Naomi Mack, and Pearl Rossin. Burial was in the Maple Grove Cemetery.
