Elda Odessa "Pinky" Mertz, 85, of Martinsburg, W.Va., went to be with the Lord, surrounded by her loving family, Monday, July 30, 2012, at her home. Born Aug. 23, 1926, in Pinesburg, Md., she was the daughter of the late Leslie Randolph and Beatrice G. Truax Spade. She was a homemaker. She attended Mount View Baptist Church in Hagerstown, Md. She enjoyed traveling throughout the country with her husband, sewing, weaving, making afghans and rugs, and especially spending time with her family. She is survived by her husband, James M. Mertz of Martinsburg; daughter, Odessa M. Berger and her husband, George, of Hagerstown; sister, Viola Weigle of Hedgesville, W.Va.; sister, Phyllis Thompson of Hancock, Md.; brother, Arlie Spade of Elkton, Md.; brother, Jearld Spade of New Castle, Del.; grandson, Brian S. Barnhart of Clear Spring, Md.; and grandson, Michael S. Barnhart of Clear Spring. She was preceded in death by three sisters and five brothers.

The family will receive friends Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, Md. The funeral home will be open Thursday after 9 a.m. for the convenience of family and friends. Funeral services will be Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, with Pastor Jeffrey Anthony officiating. Interment will be in Boonsboro Cemetery, Boonsboro, Md. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, 122 Waverly Court, Martinsburg, WV 25403.
