Bernard Lewis Spade, 79, of Hancock, died Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at his home.

Born April 21, 1931 in Lancaster, Pa., he was the son of the late Leslie Randolph and Beatrice Georgia Truax Spade.

He attended Whips Cove Church in Warfordsburg, Pa.

He attended public schools in Hancock and retired as a machinist with Maryland Metals in Hagerstown, Md.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged at the rank of sergeant.

He liked hunting, fishing and was an avid tinkerer. He specialized in collecting and restoring "hit and miss" engines which, for many years, were an attraction at the annual Berkeley Springs Apple Butter Festival.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Edna Mae Hartsock Spade, at home; one son, Charles Richard Spade, Salunga, Pa.; one daughter, Barbara Estalene Sparks, Hancock; five grandchildren, Michelle Lee Hann, Warfordsburg, Jennifer Nichole Ziler, Hancock, Steven Michael Bradt, Lititz, Pa., Charles Alan Bradt, Reinholds, Pa. and Deanna Lynne Styer, Columbia, Pa. and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services and interment private.
