Miranda Valentine was born December 31, 1842, in Thurmont, Frederick County, Maryland, the daughter of Henry and Sarah Mary Eckert Valentine. She married on July 14, 1869, to James Hamilton Hedges, son of Solomon and Elizabeth Shaeffer Hedges. They were the parents of 7 children: Charleton Valentine, Anna E., Nellie S., Hoyt D., James Hamilton, Edward Keith and Samuel Hedges. Miranda migrated to Pickaway County, Ohio, with her parents and siblings in 1852, and lived there the remainder of her life. She passed away on May 5, 1928, in Derby Township, Pickaway, Ohio, and was buried on the 7th in Forest Cemetery in Circleville.

"MIRANDA HEDGES DIES AT DERBY. Mrs. Miranda Hedges, widow of James Hedges, a former resident and blacksmith of this city, died at her home in Derby Saturday. Four sons and one daughter survive. They are, Dr. C. V. Hedges, James Hedges, Edward and Hoyt Hedges, and Miss Nell Hedges, and 12 grandchildren. The funeral services were held Monday at 1 p.m. at the Forest Cemetery Chapel."
