Margaret Ann Elizabeth Valentine was born January 3, 1828, in Creagerstown, Frederick County, Maryland the daughter of Henry and Mary Margaret Smith Valentine. On January 1, 1850, in Frederick County, Maryland, she married Josiah Arthur, son of John and Susanna Zimmerman Arthur. They had no children. They followed Margaret's parents to Pickaway County, Ohio, where she passed the remainder of her life. Margaret died on July 16, 1884, in Washington Township, Pickaway County, Ohio and was buried on the 18th in Forest Cemetery in Circleville, Pickaway County.

"Mrs. Josiah Arthur died at the residence of her brother, Jeff. Valentine, last week, and was interred on Friday. She had been an invalid for a long time. Her bereaved husband and brothers have the sympathy of this community."

"Mrs. Margaret A. E. Arthur. The funeral of the deceased took place on July 18th at the house of her brother, Mr. Valentine, 2 miles from this city on the Lancaster Pike. Her remains were deposited in Forest Cemetery. A large number of friends and neighbors gathered at the house. The choir of the Evangelical Church furnished the singing. The funeral discourse was delivered by Rev. W. H. Bucks from Philippians 1:21, and prayer was offered by Rev. S. P. Spreng, of Lancaster. The deceased was born January 3rd, 1828, in Frederick County, Maryland, and died near Circleville July 16th, 1884, aged 56 years, 6 months and 13 days. She was united in marriage with her now bereft husband January 1st, 1850, and emigrated to this county in 1854. She was a daughter of Henry Valentine, now deceased, who with his family preceded them here in 1852. She embraced the Christian religion in her youth, and was a faithful follower of Christ to her life's end, dying in the assurance of eternal life. She was a great sufferer for 18th years of her life, but bore her sufferings with patience, and looked forward to the time when God should call her home. She leaves a sorrowing husband, an aged mother, four brothers, two sisters and many relatives. Their loss is her gain."
