William was the last of ten children born on the family farm near Wiota, WI, to Michael and Ingeborg (Daehlin) Johnson. He married Evelyn Lynch 14 Jun 1930 in Rice County, MN. They had four children, all born in Galesburg, IL where William had established a medical practice. They were later divorced. (Evelyn married Willby Goff in 1958. She died in Dania FL 20 Aug 1968.)
