Born as Sint Altena.

Sam Altena sr. passed away Tuesday evening, Feb. 17, at 10:30 o'clock. The funeral will be held on Saturday at 1 o'clock at the home and at 1:30 o'clock at the Second Ref. Church, with Rev. Breuker officiating.

Mr. Altena was 83 years old at the time of his death. He had been ill for some months. Born in Holland , he moved to the Sioux Center community and has lived here since coming to the U.S. Until 23 years ago the family lived on a farm west of town, until they retired to Sioux Center in 1925.

Preceding him in death were his wife who died in April 1945; and four children, Henry, who died as an infant, Dick and Louise, who were killed in a car-train accident on January 3, 1928, and Gerrit.

Surviving are the following children: Mrs. Gerrit In't Veld of Orange City; Henry of Doon; Mrs. Albert In't Veld of Harris, Iowa; Mrs. Art Klein; Sam, Jake, And Mrs. Tony De Boom, all living near Sioux Center. There are 46 grandchildren. Pallbearers will be: David Altena, Sentner Altena, Senard Altena, Sam Klein, John Bruxvoort, and Martin In't Veld.
