John Lewis
Eckhart - John W. (Jack) Lewis, 70, died yesterday at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland. He had been in
ill health the past seven years.
Born in Eckhart, he was a son of the late Abraham and Martha (Wilson) Lewis and was a member of
Eckhart Baptist Church.
Surviving are his widow, Annie (White) Lewis, eight sons, John Lewis, Frostburg, Joseph Lewis, Staten
Island, N.Y., Harry Lewis, Sunnyside, Harold Lewis, Norwalk, Henry and Allen Lewis, here, Robert Lewis,
of New Jersey, and Raymond Lewis, at home, four daughters, Mrs. Helen Phillips, LaVale, Mrs. Mae Eisler,
Brighton, Pa., Mrs. Mary Lou Thorpe, Consol, and Mrs. Geraldine Felker, Eckhart, five brothers, William,
Thomas and James Lewis, here, Edward Lewis, Hyndman and George Lewis, Keyser, 37 grandchildren
and seven great-grandchildren.
The body is at the Hafer-Sowers Funeral Home, Frostburg, where friends will be received today from 7
until 9 p.m.
A service will be conducted there tomorrow at 2 p.m. Rev. George W. Hattenfield will officiate and interment
will follow in Eckhart Cemetery.
