John E. Legleiter, 92, died Thursday Dec. 22, at the Rush County Memorial Hospital, LaCrosse, Ks. He was a merchant in LaCrosse for 50 years before his retirement.

He was born Feb. 8, 1885 in Rush County, the son of Catherine Herrman and Michael Legleiter.

He married Minnie Lavoney Sept. 30, 1907 at Liebenthal.; she died July 28, 1974.

A member of the Columbia Street United Methodist Church, he was a charter member of the LaCrosse Lions Club, a past city council member and mayor of the city. At the time of his death, he was the oldest native born Rush Countian.

Survivors are one son, Leo Legleiter, Hays; one daughter, Mrs. Ellis Marcy of LaCrosse; one sister, Lizzie Beherens, Pfeifer; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services were held at 10 :30 a.m. on Saturday at the Columbia Street United Metholist Church, the Rev. Leslie Andrews. Burial was in the LaCrosse Cemetery. Janousek Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
