Mrs. Maude Fortner, 73, who died here Thursday, December 17, will be buried in Elmwood cemetery at Morning Sun following 1:30 p.m. services today at Elliott-Lunning chapel in Burlington. She lived at 425 West Burlington Avenue, West Burlington.
Born in Abingdon, Illinois, November 14, 1897, Mrs. Fortner married Geoffrey Umphrey in 1916. After his death five years later (sic: 15), she married Roy Fortner in 1922 (sic: 1932). Mrs. Fortner had worked 18 years for the General Motors Corporation.
Surviving: Two sons and one daughter, Paul and Thomas Umphrey, both of Pontiac, Michigan, and Mrs. Thelma Allen of Madison Heights, Michigan; four brothers and two sisters, Clifford Walker, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Samuel Walker, Cedar Rapids, William Walker, Marion, George Walker, New London, Elsie Walker, Grinnell, and Mrs. Myrtle Dotson, West Burlington; a half-brother, Robert Walker, Dallas, Texas, two half-sisters, Mrs. Viola Van Houten, Corpus Christi, Texas, and Mrs. Marjorie Kimble, Morning Sun; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
